Medical masks used in medical fields, laboratories; It has gained more importance due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Medical masks are produced and tested according to certain standards. Medical masks are tested within the scope of EN 13485 standard. One of the important tests within the scope of this standard is the BFE (Bacterial Filtration Efficiency) Test.

BFE ie bacterial filtration efficiency; It is based on the principle of determining the filtration efficiency based on the ratio of the upstream bacterial difficulty of the masks to the downstream residual concentration performed in Type I, Type II and Type IIR medical masks.

Filtration efficiency should be as follows for mask types:

- Type I: ≥ 95
- Type II: ≥ 98
- Type IIR: ≥ 98

BFE (Bacterial Filtration Efficiency) test is carried out on materials that need to protect against biological aerosols such as surgical gowns, caps and air filters under different standards, except medical masks.

BFE (Bacterial Filtration Efficiency) test; It is carried out within the scope of ASTM F2100, EN 14683 standards. It is also one of the necessary analyzes in FDA 520 (k) surgical mask applications.
