Biocidal products are classified into 4 main groups and 22 types. One of the important main groups is Main Group 3: Pest control. “Product Type 18: Insecticides, acaricides and products for the control of other arthropods” is also included in this main group.
Insecticides are products used against acaricides and arthropods such as flies, ants and cockroaches. Products in Type 18 are generally used both to kill the organism and to prevent the organism from developing in an undesirable environment.
Insecticides and acaricides usually contain chemical compounds that kill insects or inhibit their reproduction. These compounds include pyrethroids, organophosphates, neonicotinoids, copper-based compounds and diatomaceous earths.
They are available in different formulations such as liquid (liquid concentrates, solutions), granular (clumped powders), sprays and fumes.
Product categories are available in different formulations:
Most of their products are easily used by professionals or non-professionals.
Biocidal Tests: The efficacy of products is assessed by biocidal testing to measure their killing or inhibitory effects against bacterial and fungal microorganisms.
Labeling and Instructions for Use: Factors such as instructions for use, dosage and contact time stated on the product label can have a direct impact on efficacy.
Time-Kill Tests: Tests that measure the efficacy of the product at specific time intervals, showing how long the product remains effective.
Toxicology Tests: Insecticides and acaricides are examined for their toxic effects on human and animal health. Acute and chronic toxicity, carcinogenicity and genotoxicity tests are performed.
Environmental Impact: The impact of products on the environment is assessed. Impacts to protect biodiversity are examined, especially the risk of contamination in water resources is taken into consideration.
Legal and Regulatory: Insecticides and acaricides are generally subject to strict regulations. In the European Union, biocidal products must be approved under Regulation (EC) No 528/2012. In the United States, EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) regulations apply.
