Active Ingredient "Active Chlorine" Analysis

Active chlorine is a chemical substance used as a disinfectant in drinking-utility water and pool water. Disinfection efficiency of active chlorine is determined according to its concentration and time. By determining the amount of active chlorine, predictions can be made about the microbiological efficiency.

There are 3 different types of chlorine used in water disinfection.

- Liquid Chlorine (Sodium Hypochlorite)
- Gas Chlorine (Chlorine Dioxide)
- Powder Chlorine (Calcium Hypochlorite)

When chlorine species interact with water, active chlorine is formed and acts as a disinfectant. Disinfectant effect; It depends on the amount of active chlorine in the water, its pH, the contact time with microorganisms and the temperature of the water. The most important factor is the pH level. The disinfectant effect of chlorine is more at low pH.

The product types in which active chlorine can be used are stated as follows in the List of Substances Defined in Annex-A Product Type within the scope of the "Biocidal Products Regulation".
