Oil analysis is very important for the healthy operation of many mechanical systems and engines, from oil refineries and production facilities to jets and passenger trains. It is carried out using the ASTM D5185 standard for "Determination of Additive Elements, Wearing Metals and Contaminant Amounts" in oils.

ASTM D5185; It is used for the detection and measurement of elements such as iron, copper, chromium, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, silicon and zinc in lubricating oils.

The basic principle of the ASTM D5185 standard is based on the principle that small particles are released in mechanical systems and engines by the wear of mechanical components.

Techniques such as ICP-AES are used to detect and quantify these particles in lubricating oils and greases. According to the analysis results; If unusually high concentrations are detected, this is considered an indication that abnormal wear has occurred.
